As we drove up to the Sitwell Arms the outside (facing the main road) looked a bit grubby and dowdy, but the hotel entrance at the back was much more inviting. We stayed for two nights and our room was good, with a comfy four poster bed, good outlook over the fountain in the grounds, nice bathroom (a bit shabby but very clean). Everyone was very friendly and helpful, especially the bar staff who were on duty on the Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. We had a brilliant evening meal on each of the two nights. The first night we had three courses but realised that we could only manage a one course on our second night because the portions are typically Yorkshire - large!! The food was top notch - we had two great starters - Stilton topped mushroom; pate; Ribeye steak and belly pork for mains and then couldn't resist the treacle sponge and custard. Even though we were stuffed we just couldn't leave any of the pudding - it was the best treacle sponge we'd ever had! Needless to say, we paced ourselves on the following night and had steak and Guiness pie and Sea Bass - both delicious. We were glad we'd booked for a Tuesday night as there was a quiz in the bar at 8.30 which was good fun as everyone joined in and had a laugh. There are two downsides to the Sitwell Arms (in our opinion) - one is that there isn't really anywhere to go for a nice walk (not the hotel's fault of course) and the other is the disappointing breakfasts. The cooked breakfast had everything a meat eater could want, and coffee was good and plentiful, but there was no vegetarian or vegan option, that we could see; no cereals and no choice of juice (orange only - though it was nice) and only Flora spread. I know this sounds petty and it certainly didn't bother us as we were more than satisfied with the breakfast that we got, but this feedback might be helpful. Overall, we enjoyed our stay. and I certainly don't want this to be a negative review.

Room was lovely and clean, no faults to report. Staff were helpful. Would definitely recommend.

Firstly, I have to say that the staff at the Sitwell Arms were very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and tidy but not the four poster that was advertised with the voucher. The decor through most of the hotel was a little dated. The dinner in the Wild Boar restaurant was a lovely experience - really good food and pleasant surroundings, and the breakfast in the morning was top notch too. Overall I would say that we had a good stay, and got decent value for the money we paid but would point out that it is definitely not the'luxury' accommodation that our voucher was for. A Google search of this hotel shows it to have 3 stars - perhaps I should have been more careful before booking and would definitely urge anyone else buying one of these vouchers to do the same!

When I initially received this gift for last Christmas, it looked great as there were quire a few venues and one as near as ten miles away.Others were in North Wales, again not too from where we live. Due to health issues that both my wife and I had early in 2019 we looked to extend the gift period. This was done , but at a fee (£25 or more) By August we were recovered enough to look into making a booking and I was unpleasantly surprised that the choice of hotels had reduced markedly and the nearest one was over 50 miles! When I enquired I was told that we could find a greater selection by paying out even more money. I felt that given that this was supposed to be a present, the idea of paying out even more for the privilege slightly defeated the object. Suffice it to say....we were far from impressed. So we booked the Sitwell Arms near Sheffield almost to just "use up" the gift a.s.a.p. We arrived on a very soggy afternoon and were shown to our room ( A four poster room). The room itself was nice and clean, Although the carpet was looking "very tired" it was in keeping with the decor and furniture and was comfortable and pleasant. The offer was for an evening meal and fiz. We were happy to have a glass of Rose and a glass of Red with our meal. After choosing our meal whilst in the bar lounge, we were then seated at a lovely table for two in the restaurant. We had a delightful 3 course meal which was a credit to the chef and we were made to feel most welcome by the lady who served the meal, She was most friendly whilst still respecting our privacy. In the morning we both opted for the full English. Again, the food was expertly cooked and the service most professional. I would certainly recommend The Sitwell Arms, whether for a one night stay or longer and we would go back there without hesitation.
